Ah, summer-a little bit of sun and suddenly the legs are bared and the sunglasses are donned. With summer brings a plethora of festivals, barbeques, graduations, and loads of weddings. Consequently, we need to be suitably tanned for said events.
I’ve been quite lucky with fake tan until recently. I’ve never had any major mishaps-no tangoed skin, streaky pins or orange hands. When I don’t have time to go down the gradual fake tan road (usually as I simply haven’t time to do the necessary prep or careful application), my fail safe instant tan is Rimmel Sun Shimmer Tan in matte light. It’s doesn’t smell funny, it is simply to apply, is quite cheap and dries very quickly.

The sun is yellow in color, so maybe the name 'Sun shimmer' is appropriate?
However, I recently had to attend an event where my pale skin would have stuck out and so, applied my Rimmel tan in the morning. When I left the house it was quite cold and rainy and as I had a strappy dress that fell to my knee, I decided to put on a light cardigan and wear a jacket over it to keep out the rain and Arctic breeze. However, when I got to the function room of said event, it was an absolute crush, was extremely humid and there was neither air conditioning on nor a window open. Needless to say that after twenty minutes I was, ah, perspiring, and was quite warm after leaving after an hour.
When I had reached outside for the photos, my friend informed me as discreetly as possible that my legs were yellow! “YELLOW?” I roared with disbelief, and then quickly gave them a glance. My legs, particularly the back of my legs were indeed yellow in colour. I looked like I had jaundice of the legs, if such as thing is even possible????? I was mortified! I quickly high tailed it out of there and ran home to wash off the now yellow tan from my legs.
This has never happened to me before with any other applications from this bottle or any other bottle of Rimmel tan that I have owned. Maybe it was the warmth of the room or the slight perspiration on my skin, I’m not sure. Either way, I don’t think it’s acceptable.
I mean, when you put on tan, it’s usually because the weather calls for a dress, skirt or shorts and don’t what to have pasty white skin on display. Given this fact, the weather is usually warm and perspiration will occur as a result. I must admit, that I would be reluctant to use it again, encase a similar situation happened and as I really don’t want to be running to a mirror every five minutes to check if my tan is still a golden brown or has taken on a lovely yellow sheen.
Therefore ladies, be warned, it may be something that could also happen to you. Now that my fail safe is gone, I am on the hunt for a reliable instant fake tan that isn’t too expensive (sigh). Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted ;-)
