You're the one with just one coat

It can be hard to get a nice pink nail varnish-pale pink can look very teenager-y and I don’t particularly like fuscia as a nail colour on my nails (it can look fab on others though). I had been hunting for a pink nail varnish for ages that was, as Goldilocks would say “just right”, when I spotted this on the Essence stand.

This Essence Colour & Go nail varnish, in shade ‘You’re the one’, is a lovely, strong, rosey pink nail varnish. On application, it is a creamy and smooth nail varnish that glides on like a dream, and looks glossy on my nails.

I really love this colour and it is my favourite colour nail varnish in my collection at the moment.  I can’t comment on staying power or resistance to chipping yet, but I will update ye on that in a few days.

I like Essence as a brand, as it is a good way to try out colours and trends without spending a lot of money. This varnish cost a tiny 1.29 euro for a 5ml bottle!!! I prefer small bottles of nail varnish, as I rarely use a bottle up in its entirety (with the exception of Barbara Daly’s No More Yellow clear nail varnish) before it is gone off.

What is your favourite shade of pink for a nail varnish?

Do you like Essence as a make-up brand?

Essence Eyeliner Pen February 12, 2010

Something that I’ve always have difficulty applying correctly is liquid eyeliner. Its just too finicky for me-I simply don’t have the balance and coordination skills to hold the tube and applicator, while trying to precisely line my eyes and not poke my damn eye out with the little (sharp) applicator. Anyway, with that little rant out of the way, I wished for somebody to create an easier to use and pocket friendly liquid eyeliner.

Recently I thought I had hit the mother load, when I came across the Essence eye liner pen in black, for only 2.99 euro. As you can imagine, I quickly hiked it to my local Essence distributer to make a purchase. After examining it in the shop, it looked like a dead ringer for the Mac PenUltimate liquid eyeliner (without the large price tag). It had a nice slim tube, and pointed tip.  When sampling the pigment of the eyeliner on the back of my hand, I was also quite impressed, as it was a nice dark inky black color. Happy with my choice, I bought it and headed home to give it a try.

Thats where my luck ended however. On using it, the pen it quite harsh on the delicate eye area, and tended to drag. This made it quite challenging to draw a smooth line. In terms of longevity, there quite simply is none! I had lovely black chunks of eyeliner down my face within an hour of application. Not impressed!!!

I know what you are thinking-what did you expect from an eyeliner costing 2.99 euro? Well, I have tried another one of their eyeliners-the Essence metallic liquid eyeliner in Purple, and was quite impressed by the color and lasting power! Was I wrong to presume that this liquid eyeliner wouldn’t live up to its sister products? Maybe. However, this is definitely heading to the bin I’m afraid.

So, I would love to know of any better, and easy to apply liquid eyeliners that are one the market. Any recommendations??
