Some Lemon Aid Anyone? August 16, 2010

I have been longing to try out Benefit’s Lemon Aid for absolutely AGES!! When I don’t get enough sleep or am feeling sick, my eye lids get very discoloured and go brown, and I find it difficult to conceal the colour using concealer to match my skin tone. I have also been dying to try out an eye primer to see if it would make a difference to the longevity of my eye shadows.

Enter lemon aid, which according to my research, doubles as both. The product comes in a round matte black container, and has a handy mirror on the inside. I think I paid around a ten euro, as I had gotten it on sale online (can’t remember which one, sorry).

If you would like to know what I think of it, read the pros and cons list below:

 Pros

Covers discolouration really well

• Highly pigmented

This is probably why it covers discolouration so well. I have found that if you aren’t applying any foundation over this, then do sweep a bit of loose powder over this, to tone down the yellow colour on your lids. If you light handed when applying this, this may not be necessary.

 • It is an excellent eye primer

Normally if I apply eye shadow in the morning, it has worn off by the afternoon. However, I checked my make-up at 11pm at night, having applied eye-makeup that morning and it hadn’t BUDGED ONE BIT. I was well impressed.

 Cons

Texture/Consistency of product

The texture of this is a quite hard, rather than being creamy. As a result, you will be tempted to swirl your finger around the pan, in order to get enough product on your finger before applying. This can result in too much product being applied to your lids, which in turns your lids a very strong yellow.

My advice regarding application is to press you finger into the lemon aid pan, and likewise pat the product onto your lid. This helps you to build coverage as required, allows for smoother application and little or no waste of any product.

When I’m applying this, I use my fingers, as it allows me to press the product into my eye lid pretty easily. I haven’t used a brush but I would think that given the product’s consistency, it would be difficult to get the product from the pan and then blend it into the lid.

I really love Lemon Aid and have even used it in conjunction with my regular concealer to conceal the occasional spot. It is great to tone down the redness of spots, before applying a skintone concealer. This is something that I would definitely re-purchase!!

Have you used Benefit Lemon Aid? What do you think of it as an eye primer?

Primers-are they all they’re cracked up to be? February 12, 2010

I’ve read lots of reviews that simply rave about using primers when applying make-up, particularly eye primers. However, they are something that I’ve never gotten around to using. I suppose the biggest drawback for me it the price. Usually the primers that are given good recommendations are expensive ones, such as Benefit’s Dr. Feelgood, or F.Y.eye, and Smashbox’s Photofinish primer.

This is where ye guys come in. I really want to give the whole primer thing a go-especially eye primers, and wanted to know if ye knew any good budget brand ones, or tips on application of primers?
