I don’t know if I have said this before or not but just in case I haven’t….. Unless I state otherwise, all products I review and discuss have been purchased by myself, with my own money. Now that the disclaimer is out of the way, let’s continue :-)

When I’m not using my trusty Tangle Teezer to tame my knotty hair post shower, I usually use my Denman brush that I have had for years!  I used to use brushes that had little knobbly bits on the top of the bristles, but I found that loads of old hairs used to collect around the bristles and were impossible to get off when I washed the brush. This is never a problem with Denman brushes as the bristles are straight, which makes it simple to clean your hairbrush. (more…)

Tangle Teezer:Ridding the world of one knot at a time….. February 12, 2010

I’m not sure if people are familiar with the Tangle Teezer or not (maybe it’s just myself who hasn’t heard of it). Well ladies, I must admit that so far I am impressed and wondered what I ever did before I bought one!!!!

I came across this weird yoke, when I was at my local pharmacy picking up a prescription when I spied this strange pink thing sitting on a shelf. Intrigued, I picked it up and had a look. It made bold claims; labeling itself as a “Professional Detangling Brush” that would rid me of my tangles and knots. Not on that but it also claimed to be less demaging to my hair, when I would try to rid my hair of the knots that accumulated during the day, give me shiny hair and (if that wasn’t enough), give me a head massage while I was at it!!!!

I must admit I am a sceptic, so I returned the odd looking thing to the shelf and went my merry way. However, after returning home, I was intrigued to say the least. You see, I have extremely knotty hair, and even though I have a lovely detangling comb and throughly spritz my hair with my MOP pear detangling spray, there is still some painful tugs of the comb through my mane. With my curiosity piqued, I decided to do some online investigation.

I was surprised with what I found. After reading the reviews on other websites, and blogs (there was more than one mention of this nifty brush on the beaut.ie blog), it seemed that it really did leave up to its bold claims. Here is a better description on what it is and does from the website:

Tangle Teezer’s unique teeth configuration delivers a dual action of rapid, pain-free detangling and dramatically reducing hair breakage, splitting and damage as well as polishing the hair for high shine. After brushing, the hair feels like silk to-the-touch.

With that in mind, and with the fact that my local pharmacy were doing a half price offer on the Tangle Teezer, I decided to make the purchase.

Admittedly it still is a strange-looking thing, but so far so good. On dry hair, it removes tangles without too much fuss, and gave me hair a lovely shiny, silky sheen. I would go as far as saying that it looked like I had just straightened my hair. I haven’t tried it on wet hair yet, but I am extremely hopeful and for 4.99 euro, I think it was well worth it. My only qualms are that it is very oddly shaped, which makes it a bit difficult to grip. Secondly, I don’t think it leaves up to its claims of giving a soothing head massage. I give it a whirl, and found it anything but soothing…..

It normally retails at £9.99 (plus shipping) if bought from the official website: www.tangleteezer.com, but I would recommend checking out you local pharmacies first, as I got mine (in hot pink) cheaper than the RRP.

It also claims that it is excellent for back combing hair. I would be interested to know if anyone has used it for this purpose, and if so how they got on……
